Last weekend, the Tier Ten 14-1 volleyball team traveled to Indianapolis to compete in the Academy Spring Fling volleyball tournament. The tournament featured 16 teams from Indiana and the surrounding states. The local volleyballers earned victories over teams from Northern Kentucky, Batesville, Terre Haute and Fort Wayne to end the day 4-0, capturing the crown in their Black Division.

The team was led by Jenna Brinson with 19 service aces and 25 assists. Emma Bault anchored the defense with 36 digs. Chelsey Beard and Kaiden Harrington had three blocks apiece. Gracie Lowry led the offensive attack with 22 kills and an 89.3 spiking percentage.

As a team, Tier Ten served at over 88 percent with 40.5 percent of those serves resulting in an ace.

“ Serving is the great equalizer of teams," said Coach George Brinson. "It doesn’t matter if the opponent has big hitters if they cannot pass your serves. Every kid on this team serves hard and smart, putting our opponents on their heels and giving us a great opportunity to run our offense.”

With two tournaments left to play in the season, the Tier Ten record currently stands at 34-10, with five tournament championships.

“The kids are playing hard and have really gotten used to playing together," said Brinson. "These last two tournaments have made it possible to have a 40 win season. I think the kids will rise to the challenge.”
