Tuesday, November 5, 2019

The Bloomfield Downtown Revitalization team is making plans for the eighth annual Bloomfield Hometown Christmas Event, which is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, Dec. 1 from 1-5 p.m. and will be located on and around the square in Bloomfield. Dec. 1 promises to be an exciting day in Bloomfield, with the Shawnee Theater 'Festival of Trees' event concluding that afternoon, and the 'Light Up the Park' event at 6 p.m. in the town park

Hometown Christmas will offer a coloring contest for children through sixth grade and those entries will be displayed in businesses downtown. Coloring pages are available at Bloomfield Elementary School and the Bloomfield Public Library and are due Nov. 21 for judging.

Prizes will be awarded for kindergarten and under, first and second grade, third and fourth grade and fifth and sixth grade categories. Winners will be announced at 4 p.m. Dec. 1 on the Courthouse steps (Methodist Church in the event of rain).

Season’s Greetings, Dairy Queen and Haywood Printing are sponsors of the coloring contest.

On the day of the event, merchants open downtown include Bloomfield Steak and Ale, Geeky Grub, Floyd’s Flowers and Gifts, The Dancing Bear, Faithful Pony, Season's Greetings and Southern Charm Boutique.

Happy Matt’s and CJ Bear’s Cabin will be serving food on the west side of the square. The Methodist Church will offer chili all afternoon and Bloomfield Processing will also have a trailer selling summer sausages and cheese balls.

Carriage rides will be available on the south side of the square starting around 2:30 p.m. and are free of charge although donations are appreciated.

Santa will arrive at 2 p.m. and will be available at the Santa House. There will be Christmas music all afternoon provided by Landon Groomer.
