One of the many Christmas-themed windows on Jasonville's Main Street as part of this year's window decoration contest. All funds raised during the contest will be donated to Shakamak students through Shakamak's Brown Bag Program.

The City of Jasonville is getting ready for the third annual Home for the Holidays event on Saturday, Dec. 4. The fun will begin at 1:30 p.m. with Main Street businesses opening their doors, a gingerbread man hunt, Santa visiting with children at the Ridinger Memorial Garden Santa House and vendors set up outdoors at the corner of Main and Meridian Streets.

Many Main Street businesses are participating in this year’s window-decorating contest and voting has already opened. The public can vote for their favorite by visiting the business and placing money in their voting bucket. The business that collects the most money by 4:30 p.m. Dec. 4 will earn bragging rights for the next year. Last year’s winner was Jack’s Place with Pizza Villa II as the runner-up. Proceeds raised from the voting will go to the Shakamak Brown Bag Program, so the real winners of the contest each year are Shakamak students and their families.

Jasonville’s Lighted Christmas Parade will return for the first time in around three decades. Anyone and any mode of transportation are welcome to join, it is only asked that parade entries be family-friendly and refrain from political advertisements of any kind. This year’s parade will begin at Shakamak Good Samaritan, proceed to Main Street and end at Hannah Field. The parade lineup will begin between 5:30 and 5:45 p.m and the parade will start at 6 p.m..

Directly after the parade the public is invited to Hannah Field for the JHS/SHS Alumni Association tree-lighting ceremony, complete with Santa, Christmas carols and 85 trees. Before heading home, make sure to drive through and enjoy the beautifully decorated Jasonville City Park.
If you would like to be involved with the parade or be a vendor at this year’s event, you may contact Morgan Sparks at 812-798-4772 or Trey Neal at 812-798-9979 or email HomefortheHolidays47438@gmail.com.
