Richard A. ‘Morty’ Mortland

Richard A. ‘Morty’ Mortland, 80, of Sandborn, passed away on Saturday,

September 16, 2023, at Greene County General Hospital. He was born on June 10, 1943, in Clarksville, to Richard Thatcher and Arleta June (Foglesong) Mortland. On December 31, 1971, Richard married Ruth Ann Harris.

Richard was very talented and worked in construction, maintenance and as an electrician until his retirement in 2009. He was a faithful member of the Sandborn First Christian Church.

Family left to cherish the memory of Richard include sons, Mark Allen (John) Mortland of Dallas, Texas, Michael Todd Mortland of Everett, Wash., Randy Joe (Cheri) Koenig of Sandborn and Jeffery A. (Sundae) Mortland of Linton; daughters, Rita Jo (Jim) Dale of Sandborn and Jolene K. (Steven) Bryant of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, Leslie (Dusty) Bales, Justin (Stephanie) Dale, Jonathan Koenig, Madison Koenig, Mathew Bryant, Andrew Bryant, Lauren Mortland and Kyann Kaiser; great-grandchildren, Emily, Hallie and Colten.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ann (Harris) Mortland, and his parents.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at the Meng Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Poindexter Chapel in Linton, with Pastor Bryan Sanders officiating. Richard will be laid to rest in the Sandborn Cemetery.

Family and friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19 and from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sandborn Christian Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
