Helen (McNeely) Carrell

Helen (McNeely) Carrell, age 85, of Worthington passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023 at her residence. She was born in Calvertville on November 30, 1937 to Leo and Stella (Laubner) McNeely.

Helen attended Worthington-Jefferson High School and worked at Sarkes Tarzian in Bloomington, the Onion Ring factory in Worthington, several local restaurants and babysitting for several children as well as caring for the elderly.

Helen loved playing euchre and 500 rummy as well as watching game shows, IU sports and the Indianapolis Colts. She also enjoyed gardening and taking long walks around town with her sister Melda and her beloved dog, Dutch. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7117 in Worthington.

Survivors include her son, Bill E. Lee of Martinsville; daughter, Becky (Lee) (Rick Collins) Henry; step-daughter, Linda Gadberry of Jasonville; grandchildren, Heather (Travis) Huff, Suzanne (Dan) Short and Amy (Thomas) Evans; great-grandchildren, Shelby Huff, Chloe Huff, Jersey Huff, Logan Short, Madison Short, Calie Evans, Macey Evans and Billie Evans. She is also survived by several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Helen is also survived by her sister, Melda Stinebaugh of Worthington.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl Carrell; sisters, Rachel Hamilton and Myrtle Huddleston; brothers, Eugene, Junior, Clifford, Leo and Leon McNeely; son-in-law, Robert Henry; step-daughters, Sue Bough and Norma Frye; former husband, Billie Lee and her beloved dog, Dutch.

The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice of Terre Haute for the care that was given to Helen.

Visitation for Helen will be Wednesday, November 22, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home at 23 S. Jefferson Street in Worthington. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. at the funeral home with Thomas Evans officiating.

Burial will be held following the service at Worthington Cemetery.
