Linton VFW Post 7118 to assist Tennessee tornado victims

Tuesday, December 12, 2023

Following a deadly EF-3 tornado which touched down Saturday, Dec. 9 in Clarksville, Tenn., Linton VFW Post 7118 is calling upon the Greene County community for assistance.

Donations will be collected and sent off to help soldiers and their families at Fort Campbell in the Clarksville area suffering devastation from the tornado.

The Linton VFW Post 7118 Facebook page provides a lengthy list of items, ranging from hygiene products to clothing to products to repair damaged homes. As listed in a commented post by Mark Sherer under the initial Linton VFW Post 7118 post, six soldiers and their families at Fort Campbell were mentioned to have suffered complete loss.

Clothing items would greatly benefit families whose homes were left in disarray, including items such as crew socks and underwear ranging from women’s fits to men’s boxers and briefs.

One family, with six-year-old and ten-month-old boys, ask for clothing in size 9-12 months and 7 in boys. Other adult clothing items such as pants, shirts and shoes can be evenly distributed amongst recipients to ensure a proper fit. With the winter season in full swing, hats, gloves, scarves and coats will protect families from the incoming snow and bitter cold.

Hygiene products such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, shaving cream and mouthwash will maintain proper health during this difficult time. Home goods such as blankets and pillows will also benefit the families greatly.

Due to the sheer level of damage suffered from the tornado, many houses were left with damaged roofs, leading to hardware stores selling out of necessary items from Clarksville to Nashville. Therefore, tools such as tarps, nylon cord ties, lanyards and ratchet straps, all in the largest sizes possible, would be greatly beneficial.

For families with young children and infants, baby wipes and diapers of any size are great choices to donate. Gift cards are also greatly appreciated as well as additional items not listed.

Contributions may be dropped off at the Linton VFW Post 7118, located at 190 S Main St. in Linton, after 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday and after 12 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
