Martha Louise Burris, 94, of Linton went to Heaven with family by her side at her daughter’s home in Dugger on Wednesday, January 31, 2024. She was born on June 29, 1929 in Bloomington to Oscar William and Mary Margaret (Nicholson) Hatton. Martha married the love of her life, James William Burris, on October 3, 1953.

Martha was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. She had worked as a registered nurse for over 40 years before retiring in 1983. Martha enjoyed volunteering at Glenburn Nursing Home.

Family left to cherish the memory of Martha include two daughters, Maria Jessee of Dugger and Sylvia Toney of New Castle; four grandchildren, Corrie Andreas, William Mooney, Amanda and Rebecca Pierce; two great-grandchildren, Tyson Andreas and Paisley Harris as well as many nieces and nephews.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Burris; brother, William Earl Hatton and sister, Wetona Carolyn Hatton.

Funeral services to honor the life of Martha will be at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at Anderson-Poindexter Chapel in Linton with Pat Kelly officiating. Martha will be laid to rest in Valhalla Cemetery in Bloomington.

Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 12 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Linton Church of Christ. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
