Ella Rose Bredeweg

Ella Rose Bredeweg passed peacefully, surrounded by her family and loved ones, on Monday, April 22, 2024 at Autumn Trace in Linton. She would have turned 94 next month. She was born May 1, 1930 at home in Owen County. Ella Rose was the daughter of Ernest and Fern (Fiscus) Landis.

Ella Rose grew up in Owen County and married Philip Bredeweg in 1951 in Linton where they resided and established their family farm. She was the mother of Elizabeth Harris, Phyllis Gabbart and John Bredeweg.

Ella Rose was honored to spend her life serving her family, church and community and worked as the bookkeeper for Bredeweg Farms for many years.

She was a 73-year member of Saron United Church of Christ where she served as the first female deaconess from 1978 to 1980. She organized and cooked for funeral dinners and church events, participated in the young adults group and made the communion bread for many years. She also volunteered regularly at the Linton Community Food Pantry. Cooking and caring for others was a life-long passion for Ella Rose.

She also was a member of the Learn and Save and Jolly Mothers Home Extension Clubs. For the last few years of her life, she was a resident of Autumn Trace where she loved and was loved by all of her friends and caregivers and often participated in the social activities.

She is survived by her children, Phyllis (Skip) Gabbart, John (Laurelann) Bredeweg and son-in-law, Ralph Harris as well as her grandchildren, Rebecca Harris, Brenda (Ken) Reetz, Aaron (Christina) Gabbart, Sam (Grace) Gabbart, Lisa (Justin) Schneider, Suzanne (Matt) Schnarre, Daniel Bredeweg and Andrew (Danielle) Bredeweg along with her 12 great-grandchildren, Tryston Price, Alyssa Gabbart, Dylan Gabbart, Emma Schneider, Jacob Bredeweg, Jada Gabbart, Emily Bredeweg, Harris Reetz, Lucas Schnarre, Logan Harris, Madison Schnarre and Alex Schnarre. She is also survived by her brother, Bill (Terri) Landis and sister, Carol (Don) Sparks.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Philip Bredeweg; daughter, Elizabeth Harris as well as one brother and four sisters.

She will be missed by her family, church and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton on April 26, 2024. Burial will follow at German Memory Hill Cemetery in Linton.

Visitation will be held at Welch and Cornett Funeral Home in Linton on Thursday, April 25, 2024 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
