Words can be hurtful or inspire strength
Words are powerful and the size of the word does not matter. They can encourage or discourage. An example would be the word -- if. What a tiny word that holds a gambit of questions, answers and could-bes. Mostly it is not a word that encourages but may bring feelings of regret and failure. This tiny word can even determine our future. If you had done this, or had not done that. . . and we listen to it. But why do we give it the time of day? Why would we believe what it speaks over us?
Words can determine a person's character. A promised word between two people holds the same authority as of a binding contract. How a person carries out that agreement defines their character. People are judged by the honesty or dishonesty of their word. It can bring integrity and honor. But when it is broken, it can bring distrust and heartbreak, making it difficult to trust again.
However, there is always God's word. We can trust Him. His word is steadfast, a sure thing that will never let us down. It is trustworthy. In fact, when we speak His word it will never give an empty return, but will do exactly what is promised. We can rely on it, cling to it and believe in it. His word is firm, unshakable, pure and stands forever. In fact He IS the Word.
There are many promises found in the scriptures that will encourage and bring hope into our every need. Isaiah 55:11 says, " So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it."
It is a beautiful blessing to know we were on God's mind when He anointed writers to pen His every word those many years ago. Go to His word, search out the scriptures and find those promises. Stand on them and trust God. Then watch for the difference He can make in your life.
