Yard sale season
Even with the recent rain and cool temperatures, yard sales flourish. On any given weekend from May to August, signs will be all over town for yard sales or garage sales.
If you are looking for a hard-to-find item, when you spot a yard sale sign, pull over. You just might find it at a bargain price.
These sales offer people a prerogative to make a little extra cash as well as clear out their garage and their attic. For people on a fixed income, yard sales offer an opportunity for adding cash flow.
To break the spell of Saturday routines, I tried an afternoon with my friend Myrna in various yard sales. Myrna always brags of the great savings she finds. Yard sales are a place where you can mingle with people and shop for old and new items. Or perhaps you might see that item that you cannot live without. For a harder yard-saler, it’s a well-known fact more than one housing addition has a huge yard sale. You simply park your car and one end of the development and only return when your packages wear you down. Two factors should be considered. One is to wear comfortable shoes and two is to be prepared to see people’s useless items. “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” is true—at least according to the yard sale we found. A yard sale could also be defined as when I purchase things someone no longer wants, take them home and put them in my attic with things I no longer want. Don’t be surprised to see crafts, lamps, tools, boats, lawnmowers and even refrigerators in the yard. I’ve seen bicycles, microwaves, high chairs, pots and pans, a fireplace and even a Christmas tree. All going for the best price you can find on the block. With the wide variety of clothes, toys, furniture and dishes offered for sale, you might stumble upon just the thing you have been looking for. I once found a sack of Monopoly game pieces for 75 cents. Remembering that we played Monopoly last winter and the bank needed extra cash. I couldn’t pass it up. Don’t you think every household should keep extra Monopoly game pieces?
Sometimes you find something you didn’t even know you wanted until you spot it in a front yard.
