Goose Pond will be focus of new DVD production
Do you know a little bit or a lot about the Goose Pond area in southwest Greene County?
If you do, then Bill Barnes wants to hear from you.
The 1964 Linton-Stockton High School graduate, now living in North Carolina and in the production/filming business, will be in Linton later this month to gather information about Goose Pond.
He wants to produce a DVD about the wetlands, and hopefully it can be used as a promotional tool to bring tourism dollars to the area.
Barnes will be in Linton on Sept. 24-27, and Fred Markle of Linton has agreed to help set up some interviews for Barnes.
Markle hopes to set up several one-on-one conversations for Barnes so he can conserve time.
"What we're wanting to do is, anybody who has lived down in the Goose Pond area ... they know the history and we want them to share it," Markle explained. "People who have anything to say, what they remember, what it used to be ... whatever. We want to put all that stuff together on the DVD."
Markle said people can talk about Goose Pond's future too.
"Do people think it will be a good place to fish? We want people to talk about the future."
Barnes and Markle will be available Sept. 25 at the Carnegie Heritage and Arts Center of Greene County on Vincennes St. for the interviews. If anyone is interested, you can contact Markle by telephone at 847-2103 or 798-6191 or by e-mail at fred@node1internet.com .
"Actually, I think this will be a good promotion for Linton and Greene County," Markle added.
Markle also asks if anyone has any old photographs of the Goose Pond area to bring them by Sept. 25 so copies can be made and used in the DVD.
Markle said Barnes has never forgotten his Greene County roots.
"His mom Ina worked at a local bank, and his dad (B.J.) was the music director at school (Linton-Stockton) before Bill Pirtle," Markle said. "He comes home every year. He's a good guy and has a wealth of knowledge."
The Goose Pond DVD will be the second production Barnes has done for this area.
Back in 2005 he began filming for the documentary "You'll Like Linton: Memories of a Small Town and its Treasures." It was finished in 2006.
Copies are on sale at Markle Music in Linton.
