A two-day celebration of Native American heritage unfolded this past weekend at Shakamak State Park near Jasonville. The 8th Annual Celebration of the Future Pow Wow attracted Native Americans from various parts of Michigan, Wisconsin, Montana, South Dakota, Ohio, and Indiana. The event was a step back in time with Native American entertainment, dancing, artisans, crafts, flute players, and period food such as fry bread and Indian tacos. There was also a pre-1840s era rendezvous type trading camp that featured muzzleloaders, crafts and demonstrations with a pottery wheel.
