Indiana's unemployment rate dropped to 9.5 percent for December, giving the state its lowest jobless figure since early 2009. Greene County continued to do better than both the state and national jobless numbers with a 8.6 percent rate -- ranking 64th among the state's 92 counties...

Mayor Tom Jones says the city of Linton is in fair financial condition despite the current economic downturn and recent budget cuts, but the future state of Linton's finances remains to be seen. Sadie R. Hartsburg, 83, of Freelandville and formerly of Westphalia, passed away on Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at the Freelandville Community Home. Born in McNabb, AR, on July 24, 1927, she was the daughter of Price and Vola Grace (King) Reed. She married William J. Hartsburg on Aug. 31, 1944 and they had three children...

Refuge Assembly of God Church in Bloomfield sustained major damage over the weekend when a frozen water pipe burst. It caused flooding in the sanctuary and sent rushing water down the hallways and into classrooms. Harold Darnell, 17, Bloomington, was operating a 2007 Ford F-150. Nathan Cobine, 17, Bloomfield, was operating a 2007 Pontiac G-6 car. Both vehicles were headed north on the highway when Darnell's truck struck Cobine's car in the rear. Cobine was slowing for traffic that was preparing to turn into the Solsberry MiniMart and Darnell was unable to get stopped in time to avoid the crash...

Timothy J. Sarris, 29, of Linton, was arrested in Jasonville over the weekend by an officer who said Sarris was speeding and failed to pull over when the officer tried to make the traffic stop. Sarris is scheduled to appear in Greene Superior Court on Friday for an initial hearing and will be charged with resisting law enforcement, a class D felony...

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Jamie D. Dyer of Linton after a case was filed against her alleging she stole several items from WalMart. Dyer is facing a preliminary charge of theft, a class D felony. Dyer is accused of selecting numerous items inside the WalMart store during the early morning hours of Dec. ...

Linton-Stockton defeated host North Daviess 23-19 in a fifth grade boys basketball game on Jan. 18. Noah Woodward tallied six points and four steals and Brayden Allan collected six points and three assists.
