Alleged shooter faces July trial date

Mary DeFrees Shafer, 96, of Bloomfield, passed away Saturday, March 3, at Bloomington Hospital. She was born Sept. 7, 1915 in Worthington to Charles DeFrees and Dora Belle DeFrees. After graduating from Worthington High School, she attended nurses training at Welborn Hospital in Evansville. She had a long and rewarding career as a Registered Nurse, retiring from the Veterans Administration in 1975. She continued to serve as the "family" nurse for many years following retirement...
