TPEC says thanks to area school corporations

To the Editor:

Turning Point Education Center (TPEC) has played a valuable role for the youth of the Greene County School Corporations and has been the home for the Junior High Alternative Education program for years.

The Greene County schools have agreed on a plan for the next school year to host the Junior High program as well as an Alternative to Suspension program on the campus of White River Valley Jr./Sr. High School. Eastern Greene Schools have donated four portable classroom buildings for this purpose.

We at Turning Point wish to thank the participating school corporations for allowing us to serve and teach their junior high students who have passed through our doors through the years; it has been a privilege and honor.

Turning Point will still continue to serve the youth and adult learners, ages 16 to adult of Greene County by partnering with local school districts and community agencies for High School Credit Recovery and Adult Basic Education/GED programs.

Fall classes will start Aug. 12 with three class times available to accommodate student's schedules. The class times are: 8:15 -- 11:15 a.m. and noon-3 p.m., both Monday -- Friday. The evening class is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 -- 8 p.m.

TPEC operates 11 months out of the year and employs dedicated state-licensed teachers. Students work at their own pace, with pre-set goals, and are required to achieve 85 percent on all coursework and tests. To accommodate differentiated learning styles, students have available to them book coursework or computer Internet-based curriculum.

To enroll or for further questions, contact Misty Hunt at 1-800-659-2914 or 1-812-659-2235.

Smith family appreciates quick help from many

To the Editor:

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped last week when we experienced a garage fire in our neighborhood.

The Linton Fire Department saved what could have been real devastation for the whole block. It was an extremely hot fire and no doubt if we had a volunteer fire department the results would have been much worse.

To the neighbors, friends, family and especially Jayson Smith of the Linton Police Department and those who pitched in with him to remove our cars and various other items to prevent them from being destroyed, we say thank you, thank you, thank you.
