Many activities offered at senior center

To the Editor:

I am a volunteer at the Lyons Senior Center. We have many activities and events at the Center I'm sure the community would be interested in.

For example, every month on the third Saturday we have a breakfast with a bake sale, every day of the week we are open and have a nice hot lunch for our seniors. We also have some very good euchre players that have a game going every day.

On Tuesday afternoons we have a group come in and have a Gospel sing. Every Monday we have bingo and the fourth Monday every month we have started a quilting group. We also have a few pieces of exercise equipment and some come in to enjoy using them.

In June we are having our second annual Euchre Tournament for euchre players of all ages. It's free and we enjoy having all the people come in and visit. Also in June is our Second Annual Gospel Jubilee. This is our major fundraiser of the year. This year there will he eight groups entertaining. We will have music from 3-10 that evening. Because we had standing room only last year we have moved the Jubilee to the Lyons Community Center. The same evening as the Jubilee we will also be having a bake sale, quilt raffle, and a concession stand selling sandwiches and chips.

In August we will once again have an ice cream social and open house. We are always looking for more things to do to interest our senior citizens. We would love to hear any suggestions the community might have. We are open Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. if any one would like to call or stop by and give us any suggestions.

Also because of the many things we do we use a lot of ink and computer paper if anyone would like to donate these items it would be greatly appreciated. We are also always looking for volunteers to help out at the different events. We really just want the community to feel free to come join us and get involved in the fun.
