Bloomfield First Presbyterian welcomes new minister

Wednesday, December 7, 2016

The Bloomfield First Presbyterian Church would like to announce the arrival of its new minister, Rev. Dawn Black.

Rev. Black is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and is a member of the Presbytery of Ohio Valley. She graduated from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in May 2012 with a Master of Divinity, including a concentration in Christian Education, and most recently served as a Stated Supply pastor of Cayuga Presbyterian Church in Cayuga, IN. She is married to Rev. Andrew Black, who serves as pastor of the Unity Presbyterian Church in Terre Haute, IN and they have three children.

Rev. Black attended Seminary after spending time working in retail and in social services. She served as an intern at New Albany Mt Tabor Presbyterian Church, where she began preaching for the first time, developed Sunday School lessons for the adult class, and later worked to reform their worship practices.

From March of 2013 through July 2015, Rev Black served the First Presbyterian Church in Broken Bow, NE as a solo pastor of a 156 member congregation in rural Central Nebraska (a town of about 3600 people). During her time in Nebraska, she worked to develop and grow a weekly children’s program for pre-school through sixth grade children, actively led their Youth Program, and served on the Ministerial Council, where she led radio devotions, nursing home services, a community Bible study, and wrote a quarterly newspaper devotion. She served the Central Nebraska Presbytery as a Council member-at-large and as a part of the Committee on Ministry.

The Bloomfield First Presbyterian Church is tucked into a beautiful landscape at 401 Shyla Lane in Bloomfield. The congregation is a welcoming, multi-generational group with a heart for mission. They joyously serve the community of Bloomfield and reach across the world with international missions. Sunday school classes range from ages 1-100 and are held at 9:30 every Sunday morning, with worship services following at 10:30 a.m. The congregation would like to invite the community to attend and welcome their new minister!
