Bloomfield First Presbyterian begins service project

Thursday, August 12, 2021

Bloomfield First Presbyterian Church was selected last summer by the Presbytery of Ohio Valley to participate in an 18-month initiative to help congregations claim and reclaim their gift of imagination, identify the gifts and assets they have to offer, think beyond their walls, reframe challenges into opportunities, envision and tell new stories of a faithful future and develop concrete plans to implement this future story.

As a part of this initiative, which is funded by the Smock Foundation, the Bloomfield church has embarked on a project to complete 2023 hours of service prior to the 200th anniversary of Bloomfield First Presbyterian in June 2023. Mission is an area which has been a focus of the church throughout its nearly 200-year history, and serving others continues to be a passion for its members. The church has had members serve as missionaries, has supported (and continues to support) international missions and serves the local community continuously. The project kicked off in April and members of the congregation have already logged more than 1,000 hours of service to others.

Themes for mission will change every three months, and the church will be performing service hours with group projects, as well as individual endeavors. Upcoming themes for mission include: Improving our World, Education, Feeding people in the Community, Supporting our Congregation and Improving Health. The church invites organizations with volunteer opportunities to contact First Presbyterian at 1presbyterian47424@att.net and welcomes others to join in these opportunities for service. Information on activities can be found on the First Presbyterian Church of Bloomfield Indiana Facebook page.

Bloomfield First Presbyterian Church, the only Presbyterian Church in Greene County, is located at 401 Shyla Lane in Bloomfield. Services are held each Sunday, with Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. followed by worship service at 10:30. Rev. Hana Elliott serves as pastor of the church.
