FREE ACCESS: Flood warning in effect for White River at Newberry, road status updated

The National Weather Service issued flood warning on Wednesday, Feb. 23. The warning is in effect until Monday afternoon, and warns of minor flooding.

“At 18.0 feet, County Road 550 S in Greene County begins to flood. County Road 600 W, just north of the river flooded by possibly more than a foot of water for a short distance in Mary Long Cutoff Area. At 11:30 a.m. EST the stage was 17.9 feet. The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 11:30 a.m. EST was 18.4 feet. The river is expected to fall below flood stage early Monday morning and continue falling to 7.9 feet by Saturday.

The hazardous weather outlook also warns “Light snow is possible tonight, with minor accumulations of less than half an inch possible. Thursday through Tuesday, A winter storm system will bring snow to northern portions of central Indiana Thursday into Thursday night, with a wintry mix likely along the Interstate 70 corridor. Light accumulations of snow, sleet, and ice are possible.”

Greene County Emergency Management Director Roger Axe issued the following advisory Wednesday evening:

ROAD STATUS SET TO ADVISORY

Due to the flooding in Greene County and the forecasted precipitation coming to the county the next few

days, Greene County Board of Commissioners President, Nathan Abrams has set the County Road

Status to Level One, Advisory until further notice.

“We’ve had our share of winter this year and we still have to keep a watchful eye on the weather. That is

why we are moving to the Level One, Advisory Status” Abrams said.
