Jasonville ready for a fun-filled festive day Dec. 3

The Grinch and Cindy Lou Who ready for Jasonville's lighted parade last year.

The Fourth annual Jasonville Home for the Holidays event promises a fun-filled festive day for residents and visitors alike.

With a goal of kicking off the holiday spirit, encouraging local shopping and raising money for community needs, the event has grown from an afternoon vendor and decorating event to the addition of a lighted parade and tree lighting last year and a half-mile Donut Dash this year.

The day kicks off at 10 a.m. (race check-in at 9:30) with the inaugural GROW Jasonville Donut Dash, a half-mile fun run/walk ending with donuts and hot chocolate. This event is the first fundraiser for GROW Jasonville Inc., a non-profit group focused on growth, resilience, creating opportunities and working together for a better Jasonville. All funds raised will go toward revitalization efforts. GROW Jasonville is currently looking for event sponsors, volunteers, and most importantly, participants for the inaugural event. Sponsorships are $50 with all sponsors being listed on the back of the event shirt. Participants can register online or in person at the event. The online link can be found on the GROW Jasonville Facebook page or by sending an email to GROWJasonville@gmail.com . Vendors will be open from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Jasonville Fire Department and inside Main Street businesses. Vendors currently participating are

The fire department will be selling soup and sandwiches and families can participate in a Candy Cane Hunt at various locations throughout Main Street and vote for their favorite Main Street business holiday display.

Votes are tallied based on the amount of money collected in the voting jars at each participating business, with 100% of the money raised through voting going to Shakamak schools to help offset food insecurity among Shakamak students and their families. Last year, nearly $900 was raised.

At 5:45, the lighted parade will begin at the intersection of Main and Meridian Streets and proceed west ending at Hannah Field. Last year’s parade was well-attended and event organizers hope to make this year’s event even bigger and better.

Any individual, family, group or business can be a part of the parade but event organizers ask that all entries are family-friendly and not political in nature. Golf carts, RZRs, vehicles, horses and walkers are welcome. For parade entry, send an email to homefortheholidays47438@gmail.com. There is no fee to enter.

The final event of the day will be the JHS-SHS Alumni tree lighting at Hannah Field directly following the lighted parade. Free hot chocolate will be provided for guests while they listen to and sing along with Christmas carols led by members of the Shakamak High School choir and band. Santa himself will light the 113 trees lining Main Street/State Road 48 on the west end of town.

Other Christmas events happening in Jasonville Dec. 3 include a Christmas Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Stable View, a new event venue on State Road 48 between Jasonville and Shakamak State Park, as well a stop by the Santa Train at the Jasonville City Park from 6-7:15 p.m..
