Margaret Louise Kidd Wiles Uland, 76, of Bloomfield, passed away Friday, January 13, 2023.

Margaret was born February 5, 1946 at the old Linton Hospital to the late Lawrence and Imojean (Greene) Kidd. Thirty years later she would beat haunted house ghouls with her purse to defend a pack of children in the basement of that hospital. Margaret always stood up for her people.

She lived most of her life on the family farm east of Bloomfield. She grew beautiful gardens and loved making floral arrangements. She was an avid reader, woodworker, antique collector and artist. She was a natural at anything she put her mind to.

Margaret was employed at the Greene County Jail and Community Corrections for over 20 years and acted as the commander prior to her retirement. It was here she earned the nickname “Mom”. Her special blend of humor, tough love, compassion, “this too shall pass” attitude and ability to actively listen that earned her this moniker. She happily became “Mom” to whoever needed one.

Margaret could make you laugh until your ribs hurt. Quick-witted and honest, she had a unique way of expressing her views of the world. You always knew where you stood with Margaret. She would be the first to tell you.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert Wiles; parents, Lawrence and Imojean Kidd; brother, Vernon Kidd and sister, Barbara Tarrant.

Margaret leaves her husband of 47 years, Larry Uland; sisters, Susan Cook and Dee (Tom) Franklin; children, Brian (Judy) Wiles, Bruce (Angie) Wiles, Scott (Robin) Uland, Sharla (Mike) Bruce and Leslie (Ty) Steigmeyer; eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, twelve nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends all of whom she loved fiercely.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
