Janet Gail (Thornton) Bredeweg

Janet Gail (Thornton) Bredeweg, age 88, of Lyons, passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Ketcham Memorial in Odon. Gail was born in Linton on January 26, 1935, the daughter of Eric Von and Rebecca Fern (Page) Thornton.

Gail grew up on a small farm between Linton and Dugger. She attended Ellis Grade School and was a 1953 graduate of Linton-Stockton High School. She was baptized at Olive Branch Baptist Church and later joined Saron UCC where she actively practiced her faith at the local and state level through countless leadership roles. Gail was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. Gail was married to Bert J. Bredeweg on March 4, 1956.

Gail is the mother of Deborah (Mike) Brinker, Thomas (Linda) Bredeweg, Sarah (Dale) Keitel, and James (Cami) Bredeweg; grandmother of Zachary (Katie) Brinker, Jillmarie (Scott) Williams, Benjamin Brinker, Danielle (Jon) Ogilvie, Nicole (Jacob) Elgin, Natalie (Seth Whalen) Keitel, Nadine (Andrew) Powell, Haley (Kenneth) Castillo, Mieke (Steven Van Rossen) Vanderheijden, Megan (Fred) Brust and Morgan (Dylan Emmons) Bredeweg; has 18 great-grandchildren, Cameron, Nolan, Haylee, Aadyn, Zion, Melodee, Lincoln, Wesley, Justin, Ellie, Grady, Leland, Amelia, Maarten, Brecht, Hanne, Tucker and Oliver; a sister to Keith (Doris) Thornton and Eric (June) Thornton; a sister-in-law to Marie (Hase) Huber, Pearl (Ralph) Andis and Phil (EllaRose) Bredeweg; aunt to 12 nephews and 16 nieces; and her special friends included Nancy Albertson, Mary Gravemeier, Jenny Thaxton, Londyn Goodman and Jean DeVine.

In lieu of flowers, the family request you to honor Gail by attending a church service, remembering Gail as you worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Monetary memorials can be made to Saron United Church of Christ.

There will be no visitation or funeral. Burial at Memory Hill Cemetery.
