Greene County Commissioners declare state of emergency
President of the Greene County Board of Commissioners Nathan Abrams declared a state of emergency Monday afternoon in the wake of tornadic activity and winds that damaged homes, buildings, infrastructure and agriculture and caused flooding damage in several parts of the county.
The declaration, in effect for seven days, states, “a state of emergency exists in Greene County, Indiana, for the next seven days and I order and direct the Greene County EMA Director to seek the support of such federal, state and other agencies as are needed to provide assistance to those citizens of the county damaged or injured and to provide, to the extent possible, emergency services to those citizens impacted by the severe weather conditions and tornadic activity that took place in the county on March 31 and April 1, 2023.”
Abrams said the declaration will assist residents seeking help.
“The emergency declaration is being put in place to assist anyone who wants to request assistance from FEMA,” Abrams explained. “This is the first step toward getting funds available for County residents.”
