Ethel Irene ‘Granny’ McDonald

Ethel Irene ‘Granny’ McDonald, 81, of Linton, went to Heaven peacefully on Saturday, April 8, 2023, after spending the last few days with loving family by her side at her home. She was born on March 19, 1942, in Linton, the twelfth of 14 children born to William Henry ‘Bill’ and Clara Belle (Cooksey) Mowery. Ethel married Lester S. ‘Tuffy’ McDonald on May 27, 1960. After his passing, she married George Griffith on December 23, 2012.

Ethel was a member of the Blessed Hope Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and a great Godly example of a wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and playing games. Ethel loved spending time caring for her flowers and watching hummingbirds from her porch. The thing that gave her the greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandkids.

Family left to cherish the memories of Ethel include one son, Brad (Susan) McDonald of Newberry; four daughters, Kim (Bob) Ross of Linton, Kris (Ed) Pruett of Surprise, Ariz., Karla (Bill) English of Dugger and Katrina (Tony) Parrish of Boonville; 14 grandkids, Matt (Haley) McDonald, Derrick (Tara) McDonald, Misti McDonald Bish, Blake (Kayla) McDonald, Daniel (Kami) Ross, Bethany Ross, Michael (Cassie) Ross, Joshua (Kelsea) Ross, Hannah (Khaxil) Stewart, Liz (Kyle) Harrod, Abby (Ryan) Tharp, Katie (Joshua) Irvin, Kaylee (James) Bullock and Kelsey Parrish; 30 great-grandchildren, Shaelynn (Philip), Dominick, Kara, Sierra, Angela, Jade, Adaline, Weston, Kalib, Pacey, Emarae, Gavin, Camryn, Braxtyn, Aiden, Carter, Raelynn, Bentley, Coleson, Maverick, Payton, Sophia, Taelyn, Everly, Graesyn, Annabelle, Silas, Olivia, Cassidy and Myles; two great-great-grandchildren, baby McCraney (Due in July) and Ava Grace; one brother, Elmer (Linda) Mowery of Worthington; sisters, Marcella McDonald of Linton and Carolyn White Guesman of Punta Gorda, Fla.; sister-in-law, Gloria Mowery of Dugger and special friend, Leann Flynn of Worthington. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Tuffy McDonald and George Griffith; brothers, William ‘Ceph’, Jim, Frank and Carroll Ray Mowery; sisters, Helen Acord, Edna Rhoten, Martha Mae Summerville, Mary Jane Yates, Ina Cardinal and Effie Smiley.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Anderson-Poindexter Chapel in Linton with Pastor Jerry Ross officiating. Ethel will be laid to rest at Walker Cemetery in Jasonville.

Family and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11 and from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
