Shakamak government students in collaboration with GROW Jasonville will host “Pizza and Politics” at 7 p.m. in the Shakamak High School Cafeteria. Please join Shakamak government students along with community members for the local candidate forum. Doors open at 6, enter through the high school main entrance, 9233 Shakamak School Road, Jasonville.

The National Weather Service will offer a tornado spotter’s course from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Greene County Event Center. No registration is necessary for the free two-hour course and anyone may attend. Contact nws.indianapolis@noaa.gov for more information.

The Linton Public Library will host Little Movers for Pre-schoolers at 10:30 a.m.

Culpepper & Merriweather Circus will perform at the Greene County 4-H Fairgrounds, 4503 IN-54 in Bloomfield. Shows will be at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.. Tickets are available for purchase at Northwest Bank, Farmers & Mechanics and Owen County State Bank in Bloomfield as well as at the movie theater in Linton.

Friday, April 28

Worthington Tri Kappa will host a donation-only spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Worthington Park Community Building. On the menu is spaghetti, salad, breadsticks, dessert, water, tea and lemonade. Dine-in or carryout. There will also be a 50/50 drawing.

Memory Makers Quilt and Craft Club will meet from 12-5 p.m. in the Bloomfield-Greene County Library community room at 125 S. Franklin Street, Bloomfield. Lyons American Legion Auxiliary will host a breakfast from 7-11 a.m., 580 W. Broad Street, Lyons.

Greene County Master Gardeners will host their annual Flower & Patio Show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Greene County Community Event Center. The gardeners will have a plant and rummage sale. There will be a wide selection of vendors selling items from shade plants and flowers to garden art. Food, kids activities, free trees. Admission is free.

Sunday, April 30

The Elnora Bible Institute Choir will perform at 6 p.m. at Linton First United Methodist Church. Choir members have just completed six weeks of Bible School, where they delved into the Bible, studying topics ranging from apologetics to practical issues of Christian life. They spent a part of each weekday rehearsing for their May choir tour to Colorado. Their repertoire includes traditional hymns such as “Come, Ye that Love the Lord” as well as acappella arrangements of modern Christian music.

The Newberry Town Council Meeting scheduled for May 1 has been re-scheduled to May 8 at 5 p.m..

Greene County Right to Life will have their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. at Switz City Baptist Church.

Purdue Extension will host “Hero Story Time Training” from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at Rejavanated, 12 W. Main Street, Bloomfield. Learn about a reading program to promote positive development in preschool-aged children. Training includes free curriculum guide and family newsletters. Open to all teachers, childcare providers, librarians or adults interested in volunteering at local schools and libraries. Sheriff’s Department Safety Technician will be available to inspect car seats for proper installation from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.. Inspections are free of charge and everyone is welcome. Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library will hold a public hearing at 5 p,m, in the Library Annex to discuss moving $20,000 from the General Operating Fund to the Building Repair Fund and moving $20,000 from the Rainy Day Fund to the Building Repair Fund.

The Traildusters Saddle Club and the City of Jasonville will host the Fourth Annual Old West Days from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hanna Field in Jasonville. There will be food vendors, retail vendors, live country music by Keeping it Simple, a petting zoo, pony rides and two added features for 2023, ranch roping and doctoring demonstrations. Also featured will be the Scarlet Mask Vigilance Society, NCOWS, old-timey cowboys, Red Hat ladies and Purple Chaps ladies on horseback. The Little Cowgirl and Little Cowboy contests will be back for kids ages three to five years and six to eight years. Check-in for both is at 10:30 a.m. and contests start at 11 a.m.. There will be a rider meeting at noon and the all-equine trail ride begins at 1 p.m.. The ride will head down Main Street starting at 2 p.m.. No alcohol or dogs allowed. American Legion Auxiliary 479 in Lyons will host a breakfast from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the third Saturday of every month, including a full breakfast menu.

Team of Mercy Suicide Support Group meets the third Thursday of every month from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at Switz City Fire Department at 206 Charlotte Ave in Switz City. This is a closed meeting for those who have lost a loved one to suicide. We want individuals to feel safe, comfortable and know we take their grief very seriously. Bloomfield First Baptist Church will host a “Hoops for Him” youth basketball program beginning Jan. 28 and running through March 18, 2023. Any girl or boy age four through grade six may participate. Feed My Sheep Bible Bookstore is offering a Christian intervention program for drug and alcohol abuse. This is a 20-week ongoing program. Feed My Sheep is located at 74 1/2 South Main Street in Linton.

WestGate at Crane Authority will meet at the WestGate@Crane Academy Building at 13598 E. Westgate Dr., Odon Nov. 8 and Dec. 13 The meetings will start at 1:30 p.m. and will typically last 90 minutes. The Greene County Literacy Coalition hosts twice-weekly meetings to foster language learning for native English and Spanish speakers. The group meets from 6-8 p.m. every Tuesday at the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Public Library Annex and Wednesdays at the Linton Public Library.
