Dianna Stapleton

Dianna Stapleton, 69, of Bloomington passed away on Thursday April 27, 2023 at the IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

She was born June 30, 1953 in Bloomington, the daughter of Harry Keith and Phyllis Joan (Carmichael) Gardner. Dianna was a 1971 graduate of Eastern Greene High School and attended Indiana University. She married the love of her life, Dexter Stapleton, on May 15, 1976 in Greene County. They were happily married for 46 years and had three incredible daughters.

While being a wife and mother was Dianna’s most important career, she also spent over 10 years as the bookstore manager for Edgewood High School. The true joy of her professional life was owning and operating her needle art shop Fancy Works. Dianna spent over 20 years at Fancy Works serving the crafting community and always went the extra mile whether it was a first time customer or one of her many regulars.

She was an amazing wife, mother and grandmother. Dianna loved her family and they were the most important part of her life. Her favorite things to do were spending time with her grandchildren and working on her needle art. She was a member of the “Evening Glories” Purdue Home Extension Club and the Indianapolis Chapter of the Embroiderers’ Guild of America (EGA). She will be greatly missed.

Dianna is survived by her husband, Dexter Stapleton of Bloomington; her daughters, Heather (David) Elyea of Bloomington and Rebecca Grimes of West Lafayette; Michelle (Sean) Sills of Bloomington; six grandchildren, Sydney, Alec, Makenzie, Addison, Tristan and Skylar; her mother, Joan Gardner of Solsberry; her brother, Doug Gardner of Solsberry; and many caring friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Keith Gardner; and her brother, Doyle Gardner.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at the Allen Funeral Home 4155 S. Old St Rd 37 in Bloomington. With Rev Byron Williams officiating. Burial will follow at the Lowder Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m.. to service time on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at the funeral home.
