BLOOMINGTON – Linton girls track and field entered track and field with arguably its best season in program history and continued the success at the loaded sectional at Bloomington North. Linton finished fourth behind larger schools in Bloomington North, Bloomington South and Edgewood and scored 65.50 points.

“This is the highest point total we've ever had in this sectional and the best we've ever placed,” Linton Coach Aaron Lynn said. “Even the ones that didn't move on still did well.”

The Miners had its big three in juniors Sophie Hale and Peyton Smith and sophomore Becca Robbins advance to next week’s regionals. Many more athletes should advance as well.

“To say I'm proud of the girls' performances last night would be an understatement,” Lynn said. “We came into a very tough sectional and moved several girls on with some outstanding performances.”

Hale was second in the 100 hurdles to be one the top three automatic qualifiers. Her time of 15.30 in the preliminaries broke her own school record. Hale was also third in high jump to advance. Junior Sydney Jerrells was fifth in the high jump and should advance as well. Hale was fifth in long jump and should compete in the event in regionals next week.

Smith broke school records in the 1600 and 3200 and automatically qualified in the 1600 by finishing third. She was fourth in the 3200 and should advance there as well.

Robbins was second in both shot put and discus to automatically qualify in both events.

Freshman Kinley Carmicheal was fourth in 400 as she is expected to qualify in the regional meet.

In the 100-meter dash, freshman McKenzie Allen was fifth to give her a chance to run next week.

The Miners were fourth in the 4x400 relay in Carmicheal, Hale, Allen and Jerrells to hopefully advance.

“Even the ones that didn't move on still did well,” Lynn said. “Gabbi Flath was seventh in the discus, Kady Eichhorst tied for eighth in the pole vault and Millie Lynn (100 hurdles) and Maggie Lower (shot put) were both one spot out of scoring.”

Eastern Greene was sixth as a team and had a few runners advance. Senior Zoie Ault was fifth in the 100 hurdles. Sophomore Lilyanna Blais was fifth in the 1600.

Freshman Esther Crane earned a new school record in the 3200 and was seventh.

The Lady Thunderbirds were fourth in the 4x800 relay in Blais, Crane, senior Ashley Hudson and senior Sydney Richardson. Their time of 10:40.58 is a school record.

Shakamak sophomore Elayni Stone led the Lakers to finish eighth of 12 teams as she will be advancing in 800 after finishing third. Stone was also sixth in long jump.

Bloomfield senior Delaney Richardson was fifth in discus to give her a shot at advancing.
