Janet Elaine Myers, 81, of Bloomfield passed away on Wednesday May 24, 2023 at Glenburn Home in Linton.

Janet was the eldest child of Paul N. and Tressa J. (Bough) Emery. Janet was born at the Freeman Greene County Hospital in Linton on September 8, 1941. She attended Foster School, Scotland High School and was a graduate of the class of 1959 from Bloomfield High School.

Janet was married to Samuel Dale Myers on July 17, 1960. They were married 62 years. To this union were born six children, John “Newt” Thomas Myers, Samuel Paul Myers, James Phillip Myers, David Andrew Myers, Janna Elizabeth Myers and Mark Nathaniel Myers.

During her life, Janet was a housewife and mother to her six children. She worked in the Fabric Department at the Ben Franklin Store in Bloomfield, worked as a meat wrapper at the Myers deer processing business that she, Sam and other family members ran for several years. She operated the Busy Bee Shop and the Praise Him Shop out of their home. Janet has cut out countless quilt blocks, has sewn up several quilt tops and has bound countless quilts that Sam had machine-quilted for people from several different states in the United States. Janet was active in the Ladies Aid at the Scotland United Methodist Church for several years. Janet also served on the election board for Taylor Township and spent several election days at the Scotland Firehouse.

Janet was a member of the Harvest Community Church and, along with Sam, donated the three acres that the church was built on. Janet enjoyed cutting out quilt blocks, sewing, making candy at Christmas time, wrapping meat, visiting people and religious shows on TV.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, John R. Emery.

Janet is survived by her husband, Sam; six children, John “Newt” Myers (Lisa), S. Paul Myers (Susan), Phil Myers (Teresa), David Myers (Trinita), Janna Easton (Jim) and Mark Myers (Lisa); fourteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren with two more great-grandchildren on the way. Janet is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Sondra Emery and Sarah (Wayne) Gillispie; several nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the Harvest Community Church; 1482 E. Harvest Church Road, Bloomfield, In. 47424.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Harvest Community Church with Pastor Jeff Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Scotland Cemetery.
