James Karl Schantz

James Karl Schantz, 64, passed away on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at his home in Bloomfield. He was married to Patricia (Parkinson) Schantz in July 1994 and she survives. Born March 4, 1959, he was the son of Betty Marie (Rollison) Schantz and Jimmie L. Schantz.

Jim retired from NSWC Crane, in May 2021 after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Shriners, Classic Cruisers Car Club and a member of Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a car enthusiast and loved tinkering with his cars. He loved NFL football, drag racing, car shows and going to concerts. He loved spending time with his family and grandkids and loved getting his family together for cookouts and loved grilling burgers and hot dogs and smoking pork and brisket.

Surviving relatives include four kids and three siblings. His kids are D.J. Wray of Terre Haute, Devin (Miranda) Schantz of Springville, Jason (Rebecca) Wray of Terre Haute and Rachele (Dave) May of Bloomington. He had five grandchildren, Lane Shirley-Schantz, Landyn Wray, Deklan Wray, Brayton Mosier and Tristian Adcock. Siblings are Vickie (Philip) Burger of Bloomfield, Tony (Teresa) Schantz of Bloomfield and Dave Schantz of Bloomfield.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Karen.

Visitation will be at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield and funeral service will be at Prairie Chapel Church. Burial will be at the Prairie Chapel Cemetery. Visitation is 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 15, with additional viewing from 9 a.m. until time of funeral. Graveside services after the funeral will be at Prairie Chapel Cemetery. Jim Roach, Kevin Wrigley and Ben Biggs will be officiating.

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in Jim’s name to the following charities:

Riley Children’s Hospital and the American Cancer Society.
