Jon Welker Hineman

Jon Welker Hineman, age 60, of Linton, passed away on Saturday, June 10, 2023. He was born in Linton on November 1, 1962, the son of Jack and Violet (Goodman) Hineman.

He was a 1981 graduate of Linton-Stockton High School and then went on to earn his Bachelor’s of Science in Education starting out at Vincennes University and then through Purdue University. He then received his master’s degree from Purdue in 1997 and in 2021 he received his doctorate from Indiana State University. He worked with drywall his entire life and was very good at it. He worked as an agriculture teacher at Paoli High school, Scottsburg High School and then taught agricultural education and was the welding instructor at South Knox High School for over 25 years. Jon worked at ITU as an electrical engineer for two years and then worked at Ivy Tech for the past 11 years as a technical professor. He opened Jovial Joe’s in 2022 and enjoyed serving pizza and ice cream to his community. He enjoyed playing bluegrass music and loved to play the banjo, fiddle and guitar as well as farming, making tie-dye clothing, vacationing in Florida, spending time with grandchildren, tending to his flowers, gardening, trying new foods and being a pizza connoisseur.

Jon is survived by his wife, Bernice Hineman of Linton; daughters, Jessica Blankenship of Linton and Chelsea (Jack) Garner of Spiceland; stepdaughters, Tina Disney of Jasonville, Tracy (Kitric) Hudson of Linton, Kyla Graves of Linton and Breana Wright of Ruskin, Fla.; grandchildren, Zachary Hineman, Alexira Hineman, Jesse Hineman, Alyssa Disney, Nathan Disney, Kelsie Disney, Karleigh Disney, Skylar Fletcher and Harrison Hudson; brothers, Jeff Hineman, James “Jim” Hineman and Joe Hineman as well as his sister, Lana Robertson.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton on Friday, June 16, 2023 with Pastor Dan Kemp officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Chapel Cemetery in Lyons.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, June 15, 2023 from 4 p.m.to 8 p.m. and on Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
