Mary Lou Zimmerly

Mary Lou Zimmerly, age 94, of Switz City, went home to the Lord, at 5:41 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, peacefully in her sleep. She was born north of Newberry on May 14, 1929, the daughter of Aden Emerson and Nellie G. (Sinclair) Laughlin.

Mary Lou was a 1947 graduate of Switz City High School. She worked alongside her late husband, Harold V. Zimmerly, on the family farm most of her life. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother, watching them in their events.

She also enjoyed gardening, making quilts, mowing, sewing and collecting chicken decor.

She was a member of Linton First Christian Church and enjoyed her Prime Timers group.

She is survived by her two daughters, Karen Chambers of Linton and Kathy (Jim) Riggs of Lizton; a son, Brad (Kelly) Zimmerly of Switz City; her grandchildren, Brandt (Clarissa) Zimmerly, Tyler (Samantha) Zimmerly, Katryna Zimmerly, Caley Riggs and Janet Riggs; great-grandchildren, Elle, Brynn, Thea, Rowan, Wilder, Ledger Zimmerly and Lucius Anderson; and her sister, Janice (Howard) Herndon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 56 years, Harold V. Zimmerly; two sisters, Bonnie Bechtel and Lois Jackson; brother, Robert Laughlin; infant brothers, James and David Laughlin; and a son-in-law, Tom Chambers.

Funeral Service will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 19, 2023, with Warren Shake officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Linton First Christian Church Building Fund through the funeral home.
