Laura Oleva Tharp

Laura Oleva Tharp, age 92, of Linton, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 30, 2023, at her home. She was born in Bartlesville, Okla. on January 28, 1931, the daughter of Leroy and Barbara (Crawford) Adams.

Laura attended business school for two years. She worked during her life as a telephone operator in early years, and then the fabric department at GC Murphy’s in Linton for twenty years. Her greatest job was raising her four children.

She was a member of Linton First Baptist Church and attended the Prime Timers at Linton First Christian Church. Other memberships included the Linton Eastern Star, Homemakers Club and served as a former Girl Scout leader.

Laura enjoyed sewing, reading, working in the yard with flowers, birds, especially cardinals and loved to spend time with her family.

She is survived by her four children, John David Tharp (Gaye), Roger Dale Tharp (Liz), Patti Lynn Hays (Jim) and Kenneth Ross Tharp (Lori); nine grandchildren, Shane Tharp, Ashley Claunch (Darryl), John Matthew Tharp, Katelin Murphy (Dave), Logan Tharp (Samantha), Jordan Tharp (Elyse), Jessica Gooding (Jordan), Matthew Tharp and Shay Martin; six great-grandchildren with a seventh due in December; and one sister, Dorothy “Dot” Rainwater.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale Dean Tharp on January 4, 2000; and eleven siblings, Christopher Adams, Henry Adams, Francis Adams, Harold Adams, Frances Vermere, Clara Valeno, Virginia Conard, Hazel Hall, George Adams, Ruth Harbert and Thelma McCorgary.

Visitation will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 from 4 p.m. until the time of funeral service at 7 p.m. with Warren Shake officiating.

Graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at 11 a.m..
