Paul Edward Sturgis, 68 of Poland, married to Julia Claudette Sturgis for 47 years, owner of Sturgis Roofing and Remodeling passed peacefully in his sleep at home on July 4, 2023. He was born November 19, 1954 in Frankfort, Ky.. Paul was planning to watch the Linton Fourth of July parade on TV the next day, and went to bed thinking about memories of his younger days.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Mary (Hunt) Sturgis: brothers, Charles and Thomas; sister, Barbara and grandchildren, Lilly Claudette Gilliam, Collyn David Thurston and Jewel Izabell Gilliam.

He is survived by his wife, Julia Claudette Sturgis; daughters, Jaclyn Ann Starkey (Thad), Barbara May Sturgis (Joseph Thurston), Lynda Michelle Ellington (Troy), Paula Dru Malicoat (Moose) and Leora Bell Sturgis (Earl Gilliam); 16 grandchildren, with one on the way, and nine great-grandchildren. Paul is also survived by his three sisters, Naomi Sturgis Bough Weinke, Diana Sturgis Whitehead and Mary Lou Sturgis-Henson; and two brothers, Everett Jr. and John Sturgis.

For over 40 years, Paul owned Sturgis Roofing and Remodeling. Paul was a great man who taught all his daughters how to roof. Even brothers, sons-in-law and nephews were introduced to the family trade. Paul was a skilled tradesman and mechanic. He could help you build a barn, pour a sidewalk or repair your vehicle. Anyone who knew Paul knew they could stop in for advice, a hand or just a beer.

Paul loved spending time with his family and owned many boats throughout the years. You could find him, Judy, and all his girls out on Cataract Lake any weekend when the girls were growing up. Most recently he would spend time in his garage where he could listen to NASCAR races or the news, still able to give advice on the weather and local stories. Paul will be missed by many and loved by all who knew him.

There will be a celebration of life in Poland followed by fireworks on July 15 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 4215 N. CR. 850 E. in Poland.

Condolences may be sent to his home c/o Julia Sturgis.
