Jerald G. “Fred” Morse, 67, of Jasonville, passed away at 12:05 a.m. Friday, September 22, 2023 in IU University Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born October 22, 1955 in Houston, Texas to Justine “Gus” Morse and Irma (Olson) Morse.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Sharon Morse of Jasonville, who he married on August 21, 1976; daughter, Nicole Griffith (Eric) of Lewis; grandchildren, Beckett, Baylor and Breckynn; siblings, Dennis Morse of Jasonville, Kenneth Morse (Teri) of Bradenton, Fla., William Morse of Lewis, Joel Morse (Tammy) of Jasonville, Mark Morse of Jasonville and Nancy Enstrom (Bill) of Jasonville; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Craig Morse; sister, Virginia Mushinski; sister-in-law, Mary Morse and father and mother-in-law, Richard and Betty Stevenson.

Jerald graduated Shakamak High School Class of 1974. He was a lifelong coal miner until his retirement from Peabody Coal Company in 2017. Jerald enjoyed watching his grandkids play sports, he also enjoyed fishing and golfing. He loved his family and spending time with them. Jerald was a member of SAL Jasonville American Legion Post 172.

Arrangements are entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home; 218 South Meridian Street in Jasonville.

In keeping with Jerald’s wishes, cremation is scheduled. There will be a Celebration of Life on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Services immediately following at 1 p.m. with Pastor Mark Messmer officiating. Interment will be at Lebanon Cemetery in Midland.
