Jerry Wall

Jerry Wall, age 90, of Coal City, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at Glenburn Home in Linton. He was born in Coal City on March 25, 1933 the son of Fred and Ellen (Schiele) Wall.

Jerry, a graduate of Coal City High School, served during the Korean Conflict as a corporal in Korea. He worked as a coal miner for 31 years and was also a proud farmer. He was a member of the Coal City Community Bible Church, the Coal City American Legion, Gideon’s International for 41 years, the Indiana Farm Bureau and served at Owen County Farm Service Agency. Jerry and Ruth authored the John Turnipseed column in the Prairie Farmer magazine for 25 years and attended the Farm Progress shows to meet their readers.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Ruth Wall; children Larry (Deanna) Wall, Cindy (Duane) Crites and Cathy (Mike) Mowery; grandchildren, Daniel (Jenny) Crites, Jason (Christy) Crites, Matthew (Mandy) Wall, Rachel Mowery, Amanda (Sam) Williams, Luke Mowery and Elizabeth Mowery; great grandchildren, Eli, Evan, Cooper, Lydia, Piper and Louca Crites, Levi and John Wall; brother, Donald Wall and sister, Nina Wall.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 with his grandson, Matthew Wall officiating. Burial will follow at Worthington Cemetery in Worthington.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
