BISSELL Pet Foundation ‘Empty the Shelters’ Event (‘Tis the season for saving lives!)

Our nation’s animal shelters are in crisis due to increased owner surrenders and stray intakes, spiking post-pandemic euthanasia rates across the country, according to the Shelter Animals Count database. To help as many pets find loving homes just in time for the holidays, BISSELL Pet Foundation is once again prompting a national call for adoption with its “Empty the Shelters – Holiday Hope” reduced-fee adoption event.

The Greene County Humane Society in Linton is one of more than 380 organizations participating in this lifesaving event to place deserving pets in loving homes.

To support the nation’s animal shelters and help pets find loving homes just in time for the holidays, BISSELL Pet Foundation is hosting “Empty the Shelters” – Holiday Hope” reduced-fee adoption event from Dec. 1-17, including the Greene County Humane Society in Linton. As the nation’s largest funded adoption event, “Empty the Shelters” has helped more than 204,000 pets find loving homes.

During each nationwide event, BISSELL Pet Foundation sponsors reduced adoption fees of $50 or less to make adoption affordable for prospective pet owners.

The Greene County Humane Society will participate Dec. 1-17, at the shelter, located at 1026 N

1375 W in Linton, offering fee-waived adoptions for cats and $50 for most dogs.

The Humane Society is open Monday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and until 7 p.m. on Fridays. Walk-ins and appointments are both welcome.

Pre-approval of applicants is encouraged and applications can be completed online in advance at https://greenecountyhumanesociety.org/adoption/.

The Greene County Humane Society is hosting “Paws & Claus” overlapping with the Bissell event.

The event will take place on Saturday, December 2 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.. The event features Santa

Claus and is open and free to the public to bring their animals for photos with Santa. The event will have cookie decorating and free hot chocolate.

“Our partnership with the Bissell Pet Foundation has been invaluable,” said Greene County Humane Society Board President Kegan Inman. “Over the last three years, we have participated in numerous Empty The Shelter events and they have always been a great tool for us to remove a barrier to adoption for individuals and to get pets into permanent homes. Our shelter has been bursting at its seams since earlier this year, and there have been more animals in Greene County needing help than we have had the space to help. We truly hope that this event gets some long-term residents out of our shelter so that those animals can finally have a couch or a loving lap to sleep on and we can start 2024 with empty kennels, to get back to helping homeless and unwanted animals.”

The Greene County Humane Society has been at capacity for multiple months and has many animals that have spent more than six months in the shelter and are in dire need of warm, comfortable homes prior to Christmas.
