Linda Slater Taylor

Wednesday, December 13, 2023

Linda Slater Taylor of Sullivan, formerly of Jasonville, joined Heaven’s magnificent choir on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Her voice was once again strong and beautiful as she took her place with the angels in worship to the throne.

Linda was born in Gilmore to Lowell and Marie Robertson Haskett on October 11, 1937. She was a graduate of Dugger High School in the class of 1955. Linda was employed at Form Fit in Jasonville for 15 years and Terre Haute Root’s Store for 19 years before retiring.

Linda was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt that first and foremost loved God and shared his precious grace and mercy with her voice in song. She was well known in the area for the singing groups she was involved with: The Haskett Sisters, Triads Singing Choir and The Jesus Band. She was a member of the Emmaus Community and was an active member of Abundant Grace House of Prayer where she loved her church family and attended anytime the doors were open. She enjoyed the fellowship of her Christian brothers and sisters and helping anyone in any way she could.

At home, she was an excellent cook, enjoyed sewing, camping, traveling, football while cheering the Colts on along with basketball. Nothing brought her as much joy as spending time with her family making memories.

Those gone before her are her parents; her first husband, Jack Slater in 2006 and Tom Taylor in 2020 along with her daughter, Lisa McPheeters in 2018.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children and their spouses, Jay and Cindy Slater of Sullivan, Larry Slater of Farmersburg and Michelle and Kevin Kerns of West Terre Haute; step-daughter, Lynn and Jeff Williams of Washington; step-son, Pat Taylor of Farmersburg; sisters, Kay Ballard of Linton, Karen Bonham of Dugger and Sherry and Gary Napier of Sullivan; six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, December 18, 2023 with services at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2023 with visiting hours from 11 a.m. until time of service at Holmes Memorial Chapel. Pastors Tracy Hamilton and Raja Hollifield will be officiating. Interment will follow at Westlawn Cemetery.
