Marlin L. Ellett, age 81, of Linton, passed away peacefully at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 while surrounded by his family at Glenburn Home in Linton. He was born in Lyons on January 1, 1943 the son of Johnnie and Frances Ada (McFarland) Ellett.

Marlin married his school sweetheart, Sara “Kathy” Resler, on October 20, 1961 shortly after they graduated from L & M High School. Marlin owned and operated Marlin Ellett Maintenance for many years. He built and designed service stations and convenience stores locally and in other areas. He also owned and had partnerships in U.S.A. Construction, Environmental Petroleum Services, Golf Course Apartments, Guthrie-Ellett Sewers, Green Meadow Golf Range and various properties.

Marlin had treasured memories of participating on the Penske Racing Team in 1972-1973. He enjoyed winning multiple awards while drag racing, loved his outings panning for gold in Alaska, Mexico, and various places and metal detecting. He always looked for big treasures.

He was a member of the Nine Mile Church where he served as a trustee for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sara “Kathy” Ellett; his two daughters, Barbara (John) Osborne and Lori (James) Nicholas; four granddaughters, Mindy (Mike) Marshall, Haily (Thomas) Wellington, Harley Street and Bonni (Dustin) Rustman; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Kenneth Ellett and a special friend that was like his son, Donnie Strosnider.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jim Ellett.

Funeral service will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2024 with Pastor Caleb Moffatt officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Chapel Cemetery in Lyons.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of service.
