James Richard Jackson, 81, of Evansville, formerly of Bloomfield, passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh.

Born June 13, 1942 in Bloomfield, he was the son of George E. and Virginia (Wildman) Jackson.

Rick retired in 1995 as the vice president for Dayton Power and Light. He was a member of the American Legion Post 196 Bloomfield, the Elks Lodge 2120 Rochester and the Vanderburgh EMA. His hobbies included model airplanes and ham radios.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Rita Heathcotte, whom he married January 1, 2009; one daughter, Laura D. (Don) Fitzgerald; his stepchildren, Brooke Weinzapfel (Harold “Buddy” Swift, fiancée), Britt (Brian) Stemme and Brice (Dr. Kimberly) Heathcotte; step-grandchildren, Jacob Weinzapfel, Jillian (Jeffrey) Dumond, LTJG Joshua Weinzapfel, Jenna Weinzapfel, Kathryn Stemme, Rachel Stemme, Mark Stemme, Jules Weinzapfel, Jonah Weinzapfel, Jourdan Weinzapfel, Frances Stemme, Sam Heathcotte, Evelyn Heathcotte and a step-great-grandchild, Simon Dumond.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of life will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. Don Fitzgerald officiating. Interment will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery in rural Bloomfield.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
