John Dexter Hasler

John Dexter Hasler, 93, of Newberry, passed from this life, with family by his side, on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at Daviess Community Hospital in Washington. He was born on February 10, 1931 in Odon to John Denver and Pauline (Ogden) Hasler. He married the love of his life, Wana (Peachee) Hasler, on December 26, 1959.

John was a US Air Force Veteran. He was a member of the Odon United Methodist Church, White River Valley Antique Association, Daviess County Fair past president, past president of Indiana District and County Fair, Elmore Township Treasurer Community Association, Community Director of 4-H Building, Odon American Legion Post 293, Daviess County Historical Society, Kiwanis, Family Camper and RV, Good Sam’s Camping Club and was president of the Peter Hasler Family Reunion.

John was a 1949 Odon High School graduate and then graduated from Purdue in 1959 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture Education and went on to earn his Master’s Degree in Agricultural Education with a secondary Administration License. He had a lifetime teaching license and worked as a farmer and agriculture teacher at Epsom School from 1959 to 1963 and then at Elnora School from 1965 to 1966. John then went to work for the US Department of Agriculture as a loan supervisor from 1966 until he retired in 1991.

Family left to cherish the memories of John include his son, David (Tenna) Hasler of Carmel; daughters, Susie (Rick) Newton of Washington and Paula (Terry) Newcom of Marion; grandchildren, Brittany (Russell) Nix of Carmel, Darin Hasler and Ashlee Hasler, both of Indianapolis, Bryce (Erin) Newton of Washington, Jaron (Chelsea) Newton of Chicago and Annsley (Jordan) Busboom of Evansville; step-grandchildren, Tylanna (Jeremy) Jones of Gas City and Stephen Newcom of Kokomo; nine great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wana Hasler and brother, Derald Hasler.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at Meng Family Funeral Home in Odon. John will be laid to rest in Scotland Cemetery following military graveside rites by the US Air Force Honor Guard and Odon VFW Post 9627.

Family and friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 26 and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

The family requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the John D. Hasler Scholarship Fund for North Daviess Ag students. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
