Sophie Lynn Weathers-Haywood

Sophie Lynn Weathers-Haywood, 66, of Bloomfield, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Ascension St. Vincent Heart Center in Indianapolis.

Born November 19, 1957 in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Lazaros (Larry) and Athanasia (Ann) (Bakas) Paikos.

Sophie graduated from Purdue University in 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts. From there, she pursued a Masters of Education Degree and a School Administration and Supervision Certificate from Indiana State University.

Sophie retired as an educator and school administrator in 2020 after 40 years of service. She was a faithful member of the Bloomfield Methodist Church, REMC Board and Pool Board. She was very active in the church and community. Sophie taught Sunday School and lead Bible studies throughout her life. Her greatest love was serving the Lord. She also loved entertaining her family, friends and any acquaintance. She was a phenomenal cook and had a giving spirit. She served her community and the surrounding communities by writing grants and making our communities a better place. She will be missed by many, but there is comfort in knowing she is with the Lord.

Surviving relatives include her husband, P.D. Haywood, whom she married on January 29, 1994; her children, Alex Weathers (Jessica) and Drew Haywood; one grandson, Colton Weathers and three sisters, Gina Paikos, Susan Kramer (Kevin) and Patricia Herndon (Craig).

She was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Ross Weathers; a brother-in-law, Guy Fisher and her parents.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2024 at the Bloomfield Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Roach officiating. Interment will follow in Scotland Cemetery.

Public visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday and one hour prior to services on Friday at the Bloomfield Methodist Church. Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Bloomfield Methodist Church Youth Ministries and Building Fund.
