Doris J. Orman, age 91, of Linton, passed away peacefully at 9:17 a.m. on Monday, May 13, 2024, at Legacy at Highwoods Preserve in Tampa, Fla.. Doris was born in Linton on October 2, 1932, the daughter of Floyd and Hazel (Stockrahm) Alexander.

Doris was a 1950 graduate of Midland High School. Doris married her high school sweetheart, Willard Orman, October 20, 1951 and they were married 70 years. She attended beauty college, working for a short time as a beautician. During her early years, she worked in insurance in Indianapolis and for Criss Insurance in Jasonville, along with being an Avon Representative in the 1970s.

Doris’ most important career was as a wife, mother and homemaker.

She was a life-long faithful member of Olive Branch Baptist Church where she worked with AWANA and later Master Club. She enjoyed cross stitch, gardening, reading and travel. She loved going to ballgames and music recitals of her family.

Doris is survived by her four daughters, Kim (David) Bemis of Westfield, Tammy (Monte) Nickless of Linton, Dee (Jeff) Johnson of Corpus Christi, Texas and Sara (Scott) Padgett of Tampa, Fla.; thirteen grandchildren, Shaun (Tal) Bemis, Laura (Nathan) Newby, Ross (McKenzie) Bemis, Andrea Nickless, Ashlee (Abel) Lopez, Anna (William) Boland, Amy (Ryen) Fondriest, Dalton (Leanne) Hardisty, Dylan (Katelynn) Hardisty, Trey (Ashlee) Johnson, Haley Johnson, Emily Padgett and Ryan Padgett; and eighteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willard R. Orman in 2022; an infant granddaughter, Jessica Ann Nickless; and a brother, Donald Alexander.

Funeral service will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2024, Pastor Dan Kemp officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
