We are all home for the holidays
Growing up, I always loved the period of time from Thanksgiving to New Year's. With my all time favorite being December and Christmas time.
If ever I was lost in a department store or the local Walmart, my parents knew right were to find me, laying in the Christmas tree displays looking at all the pretties.
As an adult, things haven't really changed.
I love taking drives to look for Christmas lights and decorations. My tree is up by the start of November and will come down well after January. It's guaranteed I will always give people gifts early, just because I'm horrible at keeping secrets. And when asked what I wanted from Santa, I would usually answer with my have-to-have toy of the year and that my family will be together for the holidays.
Notice before I said things "haven't really changed."
As my brother and I have grown up, our lives and careers have taken us all over.
I lived in northern New York state for a few years, and my brother joined the Navy where his travels have taken him globally.
Our last few Christmases have been spent on Skype watching one another open our gifts and eating breakfast simultaneously in an attempt to be together.
But for the first time in three years, I get to have my whole family home for Christmas.
Yes, you read that right. My WHOLE family.
My heart couldn't be more full.
I know I am not the first person in this situation, nor will Christmases apart be something that is completely behind us. But for now, I will enjoy my time with my baby brother and family.
As you settle in for the holidays, be thankful for those around you. Remember those without loved ones around their tables this season, and have a wonderful holiday season!
