Marrying my best friend, and all the fun of being a newlywed
On Tuesday, Feb. 16 at 5:30 p.m., this gal married her best friend. And it was perfect!
I told you all in my last column that our anniversary was on the sixteenth, and after seven months of being engaged and doing little to no planning what-so-ever, Jordan and I decided to throw a wedding together in five days.
You read that right, five days.
After work last Thursday, I came home and pitched the idea to Jordan (this isn't the first time I've asked him if we can throw a surprise party/wedding or get married on a whim) and from there it's history.
But it didn't go by without stress and a number of conversations with each other questioning our sanity.
There were a number of times we asked if we were really doing this, and if we were how we were going to get it to come together so quickly. But in the midst of everything, I remember saying "if at the end of the day I'm married to my best friend, then that's all that truly matters."
And to be honest, for such a young gun.....I think that was some pretty solid advice.
Jordan and I wrote our own vows, stood before our close friends and family (we even FaceTimed in my brother who is stationed outside of the continental United States) as we promised each other our forevers, and then we had Mexican food and cake.
And while it was quickly planned, it was the best day of my life.
I learned something very important through this whole process as well. Being a planner of everything has to have it's time and place, and this taught me that it's OK for that to not always be the case.
Because this time, in a whirlwind with no true planning or time to think, I acquired the best gift I've ever been given, an amazing husband and lifelong best friend.
