Some days the bear eats you..
You know the old saying, “Some days you eat the bear and some days the bear eats you”?
Meaning, of course, there will be days in life where everything seems right with the world and there will be days when the world seems like a giant armpit?
Today, the metaphorical bear was really chowing down, let me tell ya. And I thought I smelled armpits, but that could have been me.
I made a huge mistake at work that I have no excuse for, dang it, I miss my kids and grandkids and boy, do I feel sorry for me.
Bon appetit, bear, don’t forget to floss.
But, generally, I have more days when I’m eating that bear (metaphorically, thank you, because GROSS) and I like to remind myself to be grateful for that.
Here’s me talking to me: “I’m such a dumb a#@. That was a super-careless mistake I made. I wish I could just pack up and go see my kids and their kids and poor, poor me because I can’t and also I’m a dumb a#@.”
“Stinkin’ thinkin’” is what my mom called it, and so do I. So when my thinkin’ gets to stinkin’, I remind myself to have an attitude of gratitude. I also tend to rhyme a lot, I’m not sure why that helps but I guess it does, cuz.
Ha. Feeling better already, see?
The truth is, pobody is nerfect, mistakes get made, and generally they are rare, knock wood. Tomorrow is another day to win and I have a lot to be grateful for, I do.
Despite my faults, which I won’t list here because that bear is still hungry, I do okay. My kids and grands are all in good health, I’m still in remission from blood cancer, my heart problems are being kept in check, my best friend Meep is a healthy and happy kitty-cat and I just won second place in Best Commentary in my division from the Hoosier State Press Association last Friday. Also, my magnetic eyelashes look fierce and stay on all day, queen!
I resolve to be more careful and not miss important things professionally, to remember the many, many things I am grateful for and to do something kind every day with no regard for something kind being done for me in return.
We are given certain gifts in this life, and are duty-bound, I think, to use them to help others, human or otherwise.
I truly hope this column helps somebody, somewhere to EAT THAT STUPID BEAR today by counting their blessings.
What are you grateful for?
That’s all I’ve got for ya, until next time.
