It takes an army to feed an army
I am the mother of a Freshman football player and guess what: I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT FOOTBALL!
Football started late in our house because my kids were not playing. I put my foot down, it wasn't happening. All it took was for Mammy Kuhn to overhear the boys wanting to play and mom saying no. Mammy signed them up the next day. I was worried sick, someone might hurt my babies. Then I attended practice...the Puckett boy fights are way worse and without pads!
So fast forward to freshman year....I am so excited. I'm learning as we go but HOLY MOTHER OF PEARL....there is a lot that goes on in the Linton football program. Kuddos to all involved from the coaches and their families all the way down to the kids and their families. I feel like I am in "Friday Night Lights." There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes ... I mean somebody has to feed these boys.
So I attended my first ever Thursday night feed. I have to give a huge shout out to Jill Williams. She may get my nomination for Super Mom of the Year! She seriously has this whole feeding an army down to a science.
She has volunteers lined up to feed at least 80 people every Thursday night. The food consisted of 40 lbs of BBQ, three of the large cans of green beans and three of the large boxes of mac n cheese, two large birthday cakes, cookies, and the best brownie dessert ever!
The serving line started and it worked like a well-oiled machine. Of course there was nothing left by the time you feed a bunch of sweaty teenage boys. Clean up was a breeze because the moms just jump in and get it done. Again....Kudos Jill! You run a tight ship!!!
I really enjoyed getting a chance to talk and meet some of the other moms. They all have been really awesome about keeping the Freshman moms in the loop on how everything works!
But, what stuck in my heart was the amount of gratitude and respect from the boys and their coaches. I think every boy said thank you at least 5 times going through the line. Then the kicker ..... the moment that will stand frozen in my mind, forever burned in my overflowing love meter .... my 6-foot-tall man child came and hugged his momma for what seemed like an eternity and thanked me for helping. Oh Lordy!
That was it .... I'll never miss out on a chance to spend time with the boys -- even if it is just watching him eat from afar. These moments are not going to last!
I think I will be getting just as excited about Thursday Night Feeds as I am about Friday Night Football. If you have a chance, come down and check it out. Extra help is always needed. It really does take an army!
