Commissioners take step to form regional sewer district; surveyor's office moving to the courthouse

The Greene County Commissioners took a step forward in the formation of a regional sewer district Tuesday. Commissioner Rick Graves made the motion to create the sewer district and hire the Rowe Law Firm LLC, of Linton, to handle the legal aspects of forming the new district and be what he called "the local point of contact."...

John D. Irons John D. Irons, 62, of Jasonville passed away at 11:55 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 17, 2011 in his residence. He was born Sept. 21, 1948 in Linton to Bobby D. Irons and Laura E. (Keagy) Stiffler. Survivors include his spouse, Patricia A. (Deschamp) Irons of Jasonville whom he married on Nov. 23, 1985; mother, Laura Stiffler of Jasonville; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Rhonda Irons of Jasonville; grandchildren, John Lee Irons, Mark Irons and Laura Sue Irons; brother, Rob Irons of Jasonville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jamie and Toby Soncrant of Jasonville and Annie and Scotty Estelle of Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby D. Irons. John was a carpenter with USA Construction for 12 years. Arrangements are entrusted to Michael W. Cox, Cox Funeral Home, 218 South Meridian Street, Jasonville. Visitation is scheduled from 2 -7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with funeral service directly following visitation at 7 p.m. on Jan. 20 with Pastor Sam Bush officiating. Interment will be at a later date at the Lebanon Cemetery in Midland.

New program teaches students life skills

Elsie L. (Mattox) Dean, 91, of Coalmont, passed away at 2:55 a.m. on Jan. 17, 2011 in Millers Merry Manor in Sullivan. She was born Oct. 20, 1919 in Sullivan County to James E. Mattox and Mary Ellen (Bleavens) Mattox. Truck tipped over Monday on Greene County Hill

Greene County Hill got the better of a large truck headed north on State Road 67 Monday afternoon. A 1999 Peterbilt quad-axle truck ended up on it's side but the driver was not reported to have been injured. Scott E. Prince, 33, of Bedford, the driver and owner of the truck, was northbound on US 231/SR 67 headed down the hill near the Greene-Owen county line when the accident occurred at approximately 1:38 p.m...
