A 17-year-old Jasonville girl escaped injury Monday morning when she rolled a late model Pontiac Sunfire on a ice-slick roadway, just outside the Linton city limits. Sidney Fowler was heading north on 5th Street NW -- just past the L Street NW intersection -- when she went out of control about 10:30 a.m. and struck a utility pole guide wire, causing the vehicle to flip on its top, according to Linton City Police Officer Carl Jacobshagen.

L-S students bring cheer to Glenburn Home residents

Shirley Roscoe Jewell, 76, of Lyons, passed away at 2:45 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011 at his residence. Born March 11, 1934 in Louisville, Ky., he was the son of Samuel and Rosa (Greenwell) Jewell. He was an electronic technician for Brown's TV in Lyons and later owned and operated S & D Sales in Lyons. He was a deputy sheriff in Monroe County. He served his country in the Korean war with the United States Air Force and in later years served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Linton, American Legion post #479 in Lyons, and AMVETS post # 2000 in Bloomington.

Local tourism gets a boost from weekend trade fair

Local tourism got a boost this weekend with the staging of the 12th Annual Buck Creek Muzzleloaders Trade Fair in Linton. The two-day event drew close to 1,000 visitors and dozens of vendors from Indiana and several surrounding states. Muzzleloader's Club president David O'Bryan, of Linton, said he believes the annual event helps local merchants, like the fast food and other restaurants, motels, service stations, department store, and downtown shops.....

Bobby Patterson accused of public intoxication while thumbing a ride

Robert C. "Bobby" Patterson, 64, of Lyons was standing on a highway trying to thumb a ride when a state trooper pulled over to check him out. The trooper suspected Patterson was intoxicated and arrested him.
