Bloomfield woman killed in accident
(Local News ~ 02/15/12)
A Bloomfield woman was killed Wednesday morning when another vehicle crossed the center line and hit her vehicle head-on. Savanah Allen, 25, of Bloomfield, was driving her 1998 Chevy Lumina westbound on State Road 445 when a 2008 Jeep Cherokee, driven by Jason Michael Hays, 30, of Bloomfield, crossed the center line. Allen was pronounced dead at the scene by Greene County Coroner Sherry Wilson. The wreck occurred about 1,800 feet west of the S.R. 445 and 45 intersection. The Greene County Sheriff's Department received the call to respond to the accident at 10:08 a.m. "Vehicle 1 (Hays) went left of center, striking vehicle 2 (Allen) head-on," Greene County Sheriff's Lt. Bryan Woodall said. "The force of the impact caused (Allen's) vehicle to spin, go off the embankment on the north side, overturn, and come to a rest on the driver's side leaning up against a couple of small trees." After impact, Hays' vehicle went off "the south side of the roadway and stopped along the edge of the road," Woodall said. Hays was treated at the scene and signed a signature of release from the ambulance. "The Indiana State Police were called in for reconstruction and the investigation is ongoing," Woodall explained. Others assisting at the scene were GCSD Chief Deputy Michael Hasler, GCSD Deputy Brad Deckard, GCSD Dt. Chris McDonald, Indiana State Police, Center Township Fire and Rescue, Greene County Ambulance, IU Health Bloomington Ambulance, and Greene County coroner's office.
